Michael Schwartz MD, MSc, FRCSC
Michael Schwartz graduated in medicine from the University of Toronto in 1967 and obtained his FRCSC in neurosurgery in 1974. In 1988, he helped establish linear accelerator-based radiosurgery at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre. He is a founding member of the University of Toronto Brain Vascular Malformation Study Group which has applied multidisciplinary decision making to the treatment of patients with arteriovenous malformations (AVMs). More than 300 patients with AVMs were treated at Sunnybrook. Since 2005, with the advent of the gamma knife at the Toronto Western Hospital, the majority of patients with AVMs treated with radiosurgery have been treated at TWH for a combined total of more that 800 cases. Michael Schwartz has been involved with the assessment of treatment outcome and the investigation of the factors that influence it.
